Flex Game - Candy Copter

Hello everyone, today is a good day because I released my first game made with Flex on 3 big game portals, NewGrounds, Kongregate and Game Gum!

It's a small arcade game called Candy Copter, based on the famous "fly the copter" concept, with some nice addons and cartoon graphics drawn by my great friend BCO (you can find his links in the Friends section on the right side of the blog).

This is my first attempt on flex/flash games, and I must say I'm quite satisfied with it! By coding it I've created an Actionscript 3.0 game framework that I plan to release as open source someday, after I do some games with it to show it's capabilities.

If you want to try it follow one of the links here:

Play Candy Copter on Kongregate
or
Play Candy Copter on NewGrounds
or
Play Candy Copter on Game Gum

As usual feel free to post any comment about it, this blog is up for that purpose. You can leave comments on the game pages too!

Bye for now,
FNX

Flex - RSS reader with source

I know this has been done millions of times before but I love to show myself
if I'm able to do what I see around the web and at work. So tonight I show you how
to create a very basic rss reader in Flex 2.

This is not a proper tutorial, I just give you the link along with a full commented AS3 source code. Here it is: FLEX RSS READER

For the source just click right mouse button on it and select "View Source".

It's a generic RSS reader and you can pass parameters to it, such as scrolling (horizontal or vertical) and obviously the RSS feed url. To see how to do it just click right mouse button again on the page and select Source or what your browser says to view html.

It can be a nice touch to your webpages, so feel free to use it (and modify it) for any purpose you like! In that case just drop me a line to show me what you did of it ok? ;)

And remember, don't just copy and paste someone else source code, read it, understand it, modify it and finally use it! That's learning!

C Ya!

Flex - Avatar Chat (Horror theme)

Here is my last experiment, an Avatar Chat made with Adobe Flex based on the great SmartFox Sever engine.

After logon (automatically for now, but soon I'll include login and avatar choice), you can move your avatar around by clicking the background and chat with other people present in the main room. More rooms will be added soon too!
Chat can be inline only or inline with bubbles. ATM I spent about 4 hours to code this little toy, greatness of Flex!

I've chosen the horror theme because I'm a fan of the Halloween and Friday 13th series to name a few, and because I found these cool icons!

After I'll finish to tune this up with custom login and other minor things I'd like
to release the source code, even if the SmartFox is not free over 20 users.

Here's the live horror avatar chat!

(NOTE: sometimes the swf randomize the same username more than once and you can't login. If that happens hit the refresh button of your browsers!)

Have fun and stay tuned for updates!

First post of a long serie.... I hope!

Hi everybody, this is my very first blog post ever!

I welcome you on my dev box, where I'd like to share my coding experiments.

At work I'm developing some isometric virtual communities in Adobe Flash CS3 and Flex, and at home something less complicated and some games too.

Next days I'm gonna post an avatar chat I'm coding these nights, and I hope to
see some feedback about it!

Well, what to say, stay tuned!
